When children are experiencing generalised, social or separation anxiety it can make home life challenging.
Children may refuse to go to school, complain of an upset stomach, headaches and feeling dizzy.
Yoga therapy is an alternative approach to treating anxiety and gives children the practical techniques they can put into action in a social or school setting or anytime within and outside the home environment.
Many parents are seeing the benefits of yoga therapy as a holistic way to support their children.
When children are anxious, they are often worrying about something that may have happen at school or something that is yet to happen. Continued worries and anxiety can cause children to develop low self esteem as they lack belief in their ability to perform everyday tasks.
Yoga brings children to the present moment so they can focus their mind and calm their bodies.
When a parent contacts me for a private session often, they are very worried themselves almost desperate after trying everything else they are looking for a gentle and alternative method to support the wellbeing of their child.
With anxiety I work through the physical body provoking the nervous system into a relaxed state of being. Clearing and calming the mind.
The techniques learnt in class can be easily implemented within the home and empowers the child to manage their anxiety as they grow.
When you step inside my home studio it is a safe, warm, and relaxing place for children and adults to come. We build a relationship that allows the participate to feel comfortable to share their frustrations and worries in confidence. Yoga therapy class is a fun place to be where the mask of anxiety can be removed and then the real work can take place.
We begin the first session with a detailed assessment of what you would like to achieve from these classes your goals and outcomes for your child. (This can also be completed by a phone consult before the class) and an individualised program is developed so that each week learning is consolidated and skills are built for a deeper understanding.
I then guide the child to learn specific meridian-based yoga postures and breathing techniques to relax the body and mind. Promoting healthy functioning of organs and systems.
I also use emotional freedom technique to clear any emotional or traumatic experiences. This is performed by simply tapping our fingers on specific points on the body while talking about the experience. A quick effective way to support a child to let of worries.
Relaxation is also taught this gives the child an opportunity to connect with their body and experience self-awareness by relaxing the body parts. Promoting a general happy improved immune function and better sleep.
Class can also incorporate yoga chanting, mindful activities to encourage self-confidence, reiki healing while in relaxation.
Children always enjoy these classes, and the results show after only a few sessions. Children are more confident, able to emotionally regulate, and become connected to themselves supporting ability to be confident both socially and academically.
